STEREOCILIA

In our ear, from where we hear. There is a bundle of tiny hairs called stereocilia. Together they create something that looks like it belongs in the forest.

STEREOCILIA

Sound installation and site-specific performance

Speaker elements are hanging in the roof together with lightbulbs that create something that reminds of a forest. The forest creates a sound landscape that embraces the visitor and invites them to interact with the speakers. The sounds appear different when the speaker plays from behind our heads or far away from the front. Someone may have pushed a speaker that starts to swing so the sound is sweeping by our ears. In the installation there is room for circus artists to create in unison with the sound and light. A light can be fixed in one point or travel around in the room. All the speakers can fill the room with sound or a small speaker in the corner can play a whispering sound that not all of us can hear. A big wheel spinning in harmony with the speakers that are swinging front and back.

The idea with the project is to invite guest artists for research periods that will result in public performances and installations. This will make the experience in every place uniq. The sound, light and acrobatics will also be influenced by the places and the new constellations which creates a whole new dynamic for each location. In connection to the performance the audience will have a chance to explore the installation on their own.
